Time and Money-Saving Printing Tips

All mailing campaigns begin with printing. The following are three helpful hints to make the printing portion of your mailing easier and save you money.

Planning Ahead  –  This is so basic that you would think that it’s hardly worth mentioning, but the fact is nothing could be farther from the truth. Allowing enough time for both the design and the printing can be a major factor in lowering your print costs. Many times, the delivery date of a printed item is set in stone because the printed material is time sensitive. When this is the case, allowing ample time for the design and print schedules will save you both stress and money. Specialized processes such as letter press scores, die cutting or UV coatings add additional time to the schedule and need to be allotted for. If you are not sure how much time is needed, let your FNBR representative guide you through the scheduling.

Printing PressSize Matters  –  Size impacts both the amount of paper used and your postage rates. During the concept stage of your design, take a minute to speak with your FNBR representative. Many times a slight adjustment in the size of your mailer can save money. From a printing stand point, a small change in the size of the card may allow more cards to be printed per sheet lowering your print costs. When it comes to postal regulations, sometimes a minor change in either the height or the width can change a flat size mailer into a letter size mailer and greatly reduce postage rates.

Electronic Proofs  –  PDF’s are cheap, easily produced, and ideal for proofing text. Let’s say multiple departments need to approve an item before it goes to print. You can send everyone that needs to approve your mailer a PDF proof prior to sending the art files to the printer. This way, all necessary text changes can be made before a more expensive hi-resolution hard copy proof is produced just prior to printing. Producing multiple hi-resolution hard copy proofs for text changes only is an avoidable expense.

Every print job starts as an idea and ends as a tangible printed item. At FNBR, our job is to smoothly guide you through that journey and save you money. You don’t have to be a print expert… but it certainly helps that you know one!

Improving Your Headline!

In life, you only get one chance to make a first impression. In marketing, your headline is the first impression that your mail piece makes on the recipient. If that headline doesn’t capture their attention, the odds are they will stop reading and no matter how good your product or offer is, you will have wasted both your time and money.

Headline

The following headline writing tips will help you capture the attention of your prospects and so they continue to read the rest of your text:

  1. Promote the benefits of your product or service. The only reason that anyone buys a product or service is for its benefits. Always include and emphasize the product or service’s biggest benefit.
  2. Personalize the headline. By using the words “You” and “Your” the reader gets the impression that you are speaking directly to them. For example: “You Can Lose Weight and Feel Great in 21 Days!”
  3. Make the reader question whether your product or service is better than what they are currently using. Ask a question such as “Are You Paying Too Much for Car Insurance?” A headline such as this will make anyone with high insurance premiums think about calling to see how competitive your insurance rates are.
  4. Use key words to create excitement and interest in your product. For example: “The All-New High Performance Monterey 185 Out-Performs All Other Boats in Its Class” This headline is designed to make the perspective buyer curious as to what is new on this model and how is it out-performing other boats.

You only have a few moments to capture the attention of your prospect, so get the most out of your headline to increase your chances to capture the attention of your prospect and ultimately increase sales.

Ready for Mother Nature?

Being a Florida based company, we try to be prepared for Mother Nature; from hurricanes to lightning strikes, or even extended power outages.  While we review our own preparedness status, we thought others may want to as well.FNBR is prepared? Is your business?

We all remember how Hurricane Sandy devastated the eastern seaboard. Sandy’s wrath impacted areas of the Northeast that rarely see a hurricane that strong. One lesson that Sandy should have taught everyone is that no matter where we live and work, Mother Nature can turn our lives upside down in an instant. At this time of the year, the Southeast prepares for hurricane season, while the Midwest worries about tornadoes. In between fighting wildfires, the West Coast never knows when the next earthquake may hit.

Imagine what it would be like if you walked into your office one day and all of your computers and servers were gone. All of your customer contact information vanished! All of your accounts receivable information is missing! All of the orders that you have already fulfilled and were ready to be billed are gone too! One act of nature can do just that to your business.

Recovering from a natural or man-made disaster is never easy, but without having remote or off-site back-ups and a recovery plan, getting your business up and running again can become impossible. The following are some tips that can help you get on the road to recovery from a disaster:

  • If a hard drive has been exposed to a flood, especially if it was in salt water, keep it wet in distilled water and take it to a recovery expert. If allowed to dry, salt deposits can become impossible to remove.
  • Data that has been accidentally deleted can still be recovered as long as the data has not been written over. Do not continue to use the computer until you have recovered the lost data.
  • Having an off-site list of the factory model numbers of your hard drives will help if any parts need to be replaced and the label with the model information has become illegible.
  • If you turn on your computer and the hard drive is making unusual noises, this may be a physical problem with the hard drive. Do not continue to turn on the computer as this can permanently scrape data off of the hard drive.

Recovering from a disaster is never easy, but if you are able to recover the vital data that is the lifeblood of your company, then you will at least have a fighting chance.

The following are just some of the things that we do at FNBR to protect both our data and the data you send us:
  • Data is stored on multiple and redundant hard drives on our servers
  • Image data is backed up hourly to a separate server
  • Data is backed up daily to an external offsite hard drive
